Yes it does...After installation, there was a definite improvement in breathing which improved the torque and throttle response. Look at the link i posted above and you will be able to see the differences between the Drop in Filter and the original...

The original looks more restricted as there is a metal mesh covering the paper filter element which will reduce the airflow velocity when passing through the filter...
