Hi guys

Just picked up my 16v!

Image

It's not as quick as i think it should be! My 2.0 8v feels quicker. The guy has installed 57i right by the radiator.
Do you think that could be why?

Are there any common problems that would put the car down on power, that i can check but still i am loving it to bits!
It's got the black leather interior and 115k on the clock.
It's had one cambelt change at 60k , when shall i do the next?
Car already has new injectors , lambda sensor , oil , filter and spark plugs.

I'd replace the belt right now.
For powerloss, check the ACAV system, try to search to find out more ;)

I don't think it's the acav , the rods moves up on both sides when i rev the engine.

I couldn't find a guide to checking it . anyone got instructions?

I have a 57i going down from the throttle body and ti's almost touching the rad , could this be doing it?
Odd thing is , it's not accelarating as well as i'd expect but top end speed is awesome.

The lungs of ACAV open at 1000 rpm and closes at 5200 rpm.

from 1000 to 5200 rpm so long circuit which is used, which allows the couple.

and after 5200 rpm it is the short circuit is used which promotes the power in the towers.

Watch this video

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dklygkXvDl4

by the video against the person does not pass the 5200 rpm so you do not see the lungs close

Ah right , i know mine are moving at 1000rpm but not sure at 5200rpm
Is it safe to rev it that high with no load on the engine?

It is lacking top end power , so i guess this could be why?

Is there anything else you'd recommend taking?

The car had been stood for 6 months and it seems to be getting better on the speed front as it has been freeing up.

It should not be a problem to rev it up to 5200 rpm, as long as the engine is on temperature.
The catalytic converter could cause top end problems. Quite a common failure on 16V's.

The exhaust looks a bit past it , but a new cat is bloody expensive!!!

Any exhaust you'd guys recommend for power?

I took it out this morning and it absolutely flew so i think the engine is just loosening up after being stood for so long!
Still after about 5000rpm it seems to lose it's steam , like a diesel does when you get out of the power band if you know what i mean.

I've changing the cambelt , is there anything else that should be done at the same time? like water pump or tensioners?

lungs must be open at 5200 rpm it is.
If it does not open this is what causes the hole power.

check the functioning of the valve system ACAV, verify that the connection is good.

And it is true that the engine runs better once the catalyst and remove the computer chip. because its design was not intended to be as anti pollution after arrival.

google translation sorry

Thanks for all the help

What computer chip would i need to remove? or do you mean remap?

I'm going to see if the lungs open at 5200rpm later on.

If it remove the acav hoses to the diaphram and it picks up better at high end , will that prove there is a problem with acav?

Well they close again at 5200rpm so i guess the acav is ok.

I'm going to find a s16 stock air box to see if that sorts it out. Does anyone have a 57i ?
Anyone know a good way to route a cold air feed?

Will the s16 exhaust fit on this car?

When i do the cambelt shall i do the water pump or do you think it will be alright without it?

Thanks for all the help guys!

S16 exhaust is the same. You should have no problems with your filter behind the radiator when driving. Only if your driving slow during trafficjams , then you will notice the heat build up under the hood. If you go to a garage to have your exaust gasses checked for CO emissions and they are much to high then that will be another indicator that the catalytic convertor is faulty.

Had my first breakdown today!
Clutch cable came off the pedal end! Is there a better clutch cable end or pedal available to stop this happening again?

Still got some good news , i put some AP break pads on the front and now it's stopping well and the ABS is working ok.

Fill the tank with 98ron super unleaded and put in some comma petrol magic and it seems to have done the trick for the power!

Now just have to get the belts done , do you think i should have the water pump changed?
